Like so many mothers of ASD kids, I was desperate and tried DMG back about 10 years ago. I caused my son to get EXTREMELY hyperactive. I stopped it within days. It took about a month for him to get back to himself. We also tried Secretin infusion. Same result. 'Biomedical' treatment, for us, was VERY effective. In making things WORSE.
Jul 03, 2000 Tips and Overview Patients and Families. Much of the current interest in megavitamin B6 therapy for autistic children stems from the publication of our report (Autism Research Institute) in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 1978.This double-blind evaluation of B6, like our 1973 study, provided experimental evidence that B6 was helpful. Rimland also enthusiastically endorsed the use of DMG for individuals with autism. DMG is a nutrient that contains an amino acid and/or protein. Proponents of DMG supplements claim it enhances the immune system, boosts neurological function and athletic performance and helps treat epilepsy and autism, according to the MSKCC. Sahelian calls DMG an anti-stress supplement that may have anti-aging effects, ” Read more here. Parents, teachers and the person with autism are the only people who can really evaluate if a medication is effective for controlling anxiety, hyperactivity, behavior problems, obsessions or aggression.” (10) DMG/TMG DMG (dimethylglycine) has been shown to enhance the function of the immune system of laboratory animals.

For us, DMG didn't show any reactions one way or another. The diet and other treatrments have allowed her amazing improvement, however. You can find lots of parents who have seen the same changes here:
Has anyone had any success using this? Or a dairy or gluten free diet?
Thanks
DMG made my son very irritable same with B6. I have been using Pro EFA for about 3 months and my son is having the best summer he has has in about 3 years. He is actually going to complete ESY this year and is having a ball. Last year I had to pull him out because he could not take the change.Hi Vivsha,
I also posted our experience with DMG on the thread in the section about supplements and other treatments. My son has been taking one 125 mg tablet for the past 3 days and he has been doing quite a bit more talking. Yay! We've had no hyperactivity so far.
They say if you see hyperactivity with DMG try TMG instead. Thanks so much everyone for your replies. What is thie supposed to do for a child? I notice most of you say speech is that what it is intended to do.Here is an article about it that may be helpful

I first read up on DMG two years ago. Our son was 2 1/2 at the time and had a very limited vocabulary, very little eye contact, and NEVER showed any emotions. After a 45 minute telephone consult with the Autism Research Institute, I decided to try it even though everyone in my family, including my husband said I had lost my mind.
Dmg Vs Tmg
With in 24 hours his comprehension had sky rocketed, 48 hours his vocabulary improved and he was speaking 2 word sentences, within a week he had more eye contact and showed true emotions for the first time. His Stims even decressed. Three years later he still takes it everyday, 250 mg. I have noticed no hyper activity with it. We did take him off of it for two weeks to see how well he would do. His teacher called and beg me to put him back on it because he wasn't staying focused in class.
It doesn't work for every child but it's working for mine https://faqnew345.weebly.com/blog/dmg-events.
And yes, it is true that DMG doesn't work for a lot of kids. I have a friend who tried pretty much the same things we did and saw no improvement. But when it *does* work, it can be pretty astounding, and given the low risk of these types of treatments it's generally worth a try.
If the DMG is causing hyperactiveness, then you need to add folic acid with it, Kirkman's sells a DMG with folic acid and MB12 added. The folic acid helps with the hyperness.
If B6 makes them hyper, it should be taken with magnesium.

Where do I get the dmg or tmg at I want to try it with Daniel. I here food science sells great stuff. Our health food store sells there stuff as well. what should i expect to pay for it?It's not cheap and you go through alot of it quickly. You can google Divinci labs of Vermont to order. It's about 36.00 a bottle. Our son is on 3 teaspoons a day, but you have to build up to that. We started at 1/2 a teaspoon and worked up 1/2 teaspoon every 4 days until we reached 3. Our DAN DR. perscribed this. Check with your Dr. , dose depends on weight. Good LuckI think the first box I ordered was .49 for 60 of the 125 mg tablets. I got mine at www.ihealthtree.com. DMG is one of the easiest things to give our dd.she never protested it because she didnt taste it. I would be lying if I stated really any one thing we did made a major improvement with her because we were doing everything.Gfcf diet/DMG/fish oil/nystatin/supernuthera/enzymes.glutithione cream and 30 hours of VB/ABA a week~2 hours of speech/wk and other things all at the same exact time. I would put my money on VB/ABA therapy though if I could only choose just one therapy. I never had side effects of anything but her eye contact, language and just being more aware of us was noted right away.within 2 weeks and we were told it might take months to see this.so we were motivated to give doing it for a solid year before weaning her off it. NO regrets:) Mt son has been on DMG for 6 weeks. It does help increase his speech. Most of his daily talking is repeating books and tv shows but I found the DMG helpful in more spontaneous speech. It's not a miracle but helpful. Thanks marillyna!Hi,
Dmg And Speech
When I was thinking about trying DMG someone on a forum said the only brand that worked for them was Food Science of Vermont. So that's what we bought. It's a little chewable tablet that tastes kind of sweet. My son wouldn't chew it, so I crush it and put it in orange juice. I order it online from Ihealthtree.com.
What brand of DMG have you tried. I wanted to try DD on it while she was on winter break. I gave it to her 1 day and she took it without a problem but since then she has refused. I thought trying a different brand. When I went to the health food store to purchase they were out of a lot of things (including her probiotics!) so .. Glycine Autism
Dimethylglycine, also known as DMG, is a natural substance found in both plant and animal cells, and is derived from the amino acid glycine (see reference 1 under Clinical Summary para 1). As a supplement, it is purported to offer a number of health benefits, from enhancing physical performance to improving behavior in children with autism and attention deficit disorder. However, the evidence to support these claims is lacking, according to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (see reference 1 under Mechanism of Action).
How DMG Works
The body produces DMG in the cells by breaking down choline (see reference 1 under Clinical Summary). Dmg nephrology. In the body, it acts as an antioxidant and improves oxygenation of the cells (see reference 1 under Clinical Summary). The thought is that taking DMG as a supplement may further enhance oxygenation, which improves athletic performance (see reference 1 under Clinical Summary). It is also thought to act as a neurological stimulator, which is why it has gained popularity in the autism community (see reference 1 under Clinical Summary). According to an October 2009 review article on the use of complementary medicine in autism published in 'Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics,' the two clinical trials testing the use of DMG on children with autism showed no positive effect or improvement in behavior (see reference 2 under DMG).
